(Venue: GSA Commons, 1337 College Dr, Saskatoon)
The SOAR Symposium is an annual research event organized under the NSERC CREATE Program on Software Analytics Research (SOAR). The symposium provides a vibrant platform for graduate students, academic researchers, and industry partners to share their latest insights, tools, and experiences in software analytics and software engineering. The event aims to foster collaboration between academia and industry by showcasing ongoing research, encouraging data-driven decision-making in software development, and promoting interdisciplinary learning. Through Keynote talks, research lighting talks, poster presentations, participants engage in discussions on how analytics can improve software quality, developer productivity, and sustainability in modern software systems.
This year, the SOAR Symposium features:
Keynote Talks
Student research presentations and posters
Short video presentations
Networking opportunities among students, professors, and industrial collaborators
Refreshments and entertainment
The symposium not only highlights innovative research in software analytics but also helps participants enhance their professional communication skills and prepare for collaborative, real-world problem-solving in software engineering contexts.
Submission Guidelines
1. Scope

- Mining software repositories
- Developer behavior and productivity analytics
- AI/LLMs for software engineering
- Software quality, maintenance, and evolution
- Human and organizational factors in software development
- Software visualization and metrics
- Reproducibility and open science in software analytics
2. Submission Format
- Length: Up to 2 pages (including references).
- Format: Use the ACM Conference Template (two columns): https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template
- File Type: PDF only.
- Language: English.
- Submission System: https://usask-soar2025.hotcrp.com/https://usask-soar2025.hotcrp.com/
3. Content Guidelines
An extended abstract should be concise yet informative, clearly outlining the research motivation, methods, and early results or ideas. Include the following sections:
- Title and Author Information – Include names, affiliations, and email addresses.
- Abstract (100–150 words) – A short summary of the work.
- Introduction / Motivation – Describe the problem and its relevance.
- Approach / Methodology – Summarize methods, data, or tools used.
- Results / Insights – Present key findings or expected contributions.
- Future Work and Impact – Highlight next steps and broader implications.
- References – Use a consistent citation style (ACM).
4. Video Presentation
Authors of submitted abstracts must submit a 3-minute video presentation summarizing their work.
- Format: MP4, landscape orientation, maximum 150 MB.
- Preparation Guideline: Slide presentation with your face showing
- Purpose: To communicate your work to a broader audience during the symposium and online showcase.
- Content: Focus on motivation, main idea, and findings—keep it engaging and visual.
5. Review & Evaluation
Each submission will be reviewed by at least two PC members based on:
- Relevance to software analytics
- Clarity and quality of writing
- Originality and significance of ideas
- Potential to inspire discussion or collaboration
Accepted abstracts will be featured as either poster or lightning-talk presentations, and the proceedings—including extended abstracts and video links—will be compiled into a SOAR Symposium 2025 digital booklet for community sharing.
